Ohio’s minimum wage will officially increase on Jan. 1, 2027, according to the Ohio Department of Commerce Division of Industrial Compliance’s Bureau of Wage and Hour Administration.

The adjustment represents a 3.5% increase from the 2026 rates, mandated by a state constitutional amendment that ties wages to inflation.

New 2027 Wage Rates

  • Non-Tipped Employees: $11.40 per hour (up from $11.00 in 2026)
  • Tipped Employees: $5.70 per hour (up from $5.50 in 2026)

Business Revenue Thresholds

The state minimum wage applies to businesses based on their annual gross receipts:

  • Gross Receipts Over $420,000: Must pay the new Ohio rates listed above. (This threshold increased from $405,000).
  • Gross Receipts of $420,000 or Less: May pay the federal minimum wage baseline of $7.25 per hour.

Exceptions & Compliance

  • Minor Workers: The rate for 14- and 15-year-old workers remains tied to the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour.
  • Mandatory Poster: All covered Ohio employers are required to display the official 2027 Minimum Wage poster in the workplace.
