IRS reminds Information Return filers of platform transition

The IRS reminds business and tax professionals of the upcoming system change from Filing Information Returns Electronically, known as FIRE, to Information Returns Intake System or IRIS. The FIRE system will stop accepting returns after Nov. 19, 2026. IRIS will be handling those information returns during the 2027 filing season.

IRIS is a portal that allows for the filing of up to 100 returns at a time. Those who need to set up an account with the IRIS system must complete an application for a Transmitter Control Code, or TCC. Nov. 1 is the last day to file test information returns through FIRE and Nov. 9 will be the last day to make changes to the Information Returns Applications for Transmitter Control Codes.

The IRIS Working Group holds meetings on the second Wednesday of each month. Participants must register each month to receive the meeting link, which is sent out through IRIS QuickAlerts.

For more information, see Filing Information Returns Electronically and E-file Information Returns with IRIS on IRS.gov.
