The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has launched a new mobile app that replaces IRS2Go and gives taxpayers more ways to securely access IRS tools and account services from their mobile devices.
The new IRS mobile app is free and is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play. The IRS says the app will continue to expand with additional capabilities and services over time.
What Can Taxpayers Do With the New IRS App?
The new IRS app currently provides access to several commonly used tax and account features. Taxpayers can use the app to:
- Check the status of a tax refund or amended return.
- View available balance information.
- Make tax payments and review payment activity.
- View certain IRS notices and letters.
- Access available tax records and transcripts.
- Manage certain profile and communication preferences.
- Access an Identity Protection PIN (IP PIN).
These features are intended to make it easier for taxpayers to access selected IRS services without having to use a desktop computer.
IRS Online Accounts Are Still Available
The IRS notes that the new mobile app initially provides selected features from the Individual Online Account. Taxpayers can continue to access their Individual Online Account, Business Tax Account, and Tax Pro Account through the IRS website.
The IRS plans to expand the mobile app with additional features and services in the future.
Beware of Look-Alike IRS Apps
The IRS is also reminding taxpayers to be careful when downloading or using mobile applications that claim to provide access to IRS accounts.
Taxpayers should use official IRS resources to find verified links to the app and should be cautious of look-alike applications, advertisements, and unsolicited messages that claim to provide access to IRS accounts or tax information.
Where to Get the IRS Mobile App
The IRS mobile app is available for free through the Apple App Store and Google Play. Taxpayers should use the official IRS website to find verified links to the app and additional information.
The launch of the new app is part of the IRS's ongoing effort to expand digital access to tax information and account services while providing taxpayers with additional ways to securely interact with the agency.
